Rogue/Scam traders

Rogue/Scam traders

Dear residents,

Penarth neighbourhood policing team have received reports of rogue traders operating in the Dinas Powys area offering unsolicited work, using a variety of tactics to pressure victims into paying for services they do not necessarily need or want.

This type of fraud involves substandard home maintenance work such as paving, cleaning gutters, roofing, gardening and other general labour. The rogue traders often cause damage to the property themselves in order to then offer their own services, for inflated fees.

South Wales Police are advising residents to be vigilant of persons knocking their door offering any maintenance services.

If you have any doubts about the authenticity of a trader, please do not agree to any work, take a business card/leaflet if possible and research the business thoroughly, obtaining multiple quotes from other businesses to understand fair value for the work.

If you have been a victim of rogue traders or notice any suspicious behaviour relating to this matter, please report directly to SWP via 101/999.

You can also contact Citizens Advice on 0808 223 1133 if you have any concerns, or directly to Trading Standards if you believe the traders have sold you faulty, inferior or overpriced products/services.
